Still stuck with that spring fever but I have to admit, I’m
a little disappointed in the trends this spring. Don’t get me wrong I still
LOVE the trends this year that include polka dots, stripes, and black and white
but what it really comes down to is I’m more of a pastel girl. Springing ahead
to spring 2014 (see what I did there),
some of my absolute favorite things I’m looking forward to is the pastel doll
house, toy story, bittersweet themes. From the “silk denim, stretch jersey,
matte satin, double-faced nylon” to the “fancy tweed, jacquard burnout,
applique lace, dot velour”, the Doneger Group has really got me excited for
next spring. These “vintage” “barley there” concepts are made up of light
colors along with neutrals which seem to be lightening up this spring’s black
and white craze. Mixing these light fabrics and layering them on top of each
other is one of my favorite parts of spring; it’s the time to try out new
things and feel like a whole new person.

Must haves for spring 2014: light, pastel, colors that have
become more modern and have moved away from the “Eastery” side of pastels. These
colors can be worn in light fabrics that look clean and refreshed with a mix of
different fabrics. Also, geometric graphics, such as squares, zigzags, and
sports influenced separates with draping in off-white/eggshell.
Some other trends include:
- Tailoring (menswear inspired)
- Simplified accessories
- Less metallic and less shiny
- Draped/relaxed look
- Scallops/pearls/embroidery
So while I watch the A/W13 runways shows and wait for the blizzard to entrap all of New York, I leave you with some eye candy for warmer days ahead (according to the ground hog!)
In researching S/S 14 key items on WSGN, I noticed that lace will be big next spring. That popped into my head while reading your post - the lace was light and airy with hints of pastels, embroidery and other fun details like pearls. Seems like lace will be a big part of the vintage, barely there concept you've reported on. Right up my alley! I'm going to find an excuse to turn this trend into Boston's version of Downton Abbey style. I'm looking forward to this!
ReplyDeleteLove the ethereal pastel mood boards you included with your post! Especially since you mentioned pointed shoes making a comeback, the whole aesthetic really reminds me of last Spring's Louis Vuitton selection. The whole thing was gorgeous lace, pastels - totally ethereal and dreamlike.
ReplyDeleteI loved that runway..who doesn't love a little Louis Vuitton in the spring!?
DeleteI love that mood board you posted! I'm in love with the Ethereal look, I also wrote about it on my blog. I haven't seen much denim on denim lately so i'm excited for that and I agree- pointed toed shoes rule!
ReplyDeleteYess!! I'm down for anything pastel, lacey, and soft in the spring! And the pointed shoes..so cute although sometimes they hurt my feet! lol
DeleteMy favorite is pastels! I love having the clean refreshing look after the long cold horrid winter! These trends are going to be a great way to start off the summer! I wish Spring would arrive here ASAP, because I am so sick of these heavy winter clothes!
ReplyDeleteMy style aesthetic is all about everything feminine and dainty, so many of the trends you mentioned will work right into my wardrobe. Light pastel pink blouses are a current favorite of mine, paired with a matte satin blazer and a denim pant for night outings. The look also incorporates the tailored trend you wrote about. I am most looking forward to lace, as I do not currently have many pieces in the fabric, but it is definitely the epitome of femininity! I can not wait to further explore the Spring 14 trends.
ReplyDeleteThese styles are so feminine and just lovely! I really appreciated you adding the mood boards as well. It brought home the ideas that drive these new trends. Through my research, I too noticed how relaxed all the fits seem to be for S2014. Very forgiving silhouettes, so I don't mind that one bit!
